Google recently released the Beta of their own free browser called "Google Chrome" (you can download Chrome here). The experts are saying this will be a huge rival to Mozilla's Firefox.
Back when I was on my old, junky computer, all I could use was Internet Explorer. I hated it, but Firefox just ran too slow. When I got my new computer, one of my first downloads was Firefox. I fell so deeply in love that I never looked back.
You can customize FF with add-ons and richer options. The latest version, 3, is quite fast. And as a web developer, I appreciate the fact that Mozilla is trying to adhere to W3C standards.
On the surface, Chrome seems like a great idea. Google claims that they're revolutionizing the way browsers work, by integrating apps and efficiently threading the processes. But with all of the privacy issues surrounding Google, I'm wondering how much a user's activity might be tracked with Chrome. Because of this, I'm hesitant to try it out. However, if this does take off, I may have no other choice but to at least have it on my system for site testing.
What do you think? Will you be going Chrome? Will it dethrone Firefox?

I'm not sure. I really like FF. I didn't mind IE except for the constant crashes.
I didn't see anything that Chrome offered that was so compelling as to switch.
BUT, eventually I'm going to have a test laptop that runs ENTIRELY on google programs/services. I'll try it there when the time comes.
I have downloaded Chrome and it looks good. It still needs some tweaking though. As long as Google Toolbar isn't available for Chrome I don't think about switching. But it's promising!
It seems faster than firefox so far but I like the plugins too much to switch.
One good thing about it is that the adress bar works similarly to the google toolbar's seach box.
However since i'm running both windows and linux at the moment i'll stick to firefox (it's good to have at least a little in common betwen the two).
I'll wait 6 months or so for them to kill major bugs. I'm with Firefox anyway.
I know what you mean about firefox, I can't even look at an IE server without wanting to cry...chrome sounds interesting, I might check it out.
Chrome does work nicely - BUT it was not able to import/get my bookmarks out of Firefox.... - so bit useless this way to me... :(
Thanks for the comments, guys! It seems like the consensus is that Firefox still totally rocks.
Lately I've been doing EntreCard and have a lot of tabs open at a time. Things slow to a crawl on FF, and I've wondered if Chrome's memory management would be beneficial... But I'm with you, Michael -- I won't even allow myself to be tempted until they've stomped a lot of the bugs.
When I do try it, I have my doubts it'll win me over. Like you, Ad Infinitum, I've gotten fond of plugins. I've even looked into building my own -- no way am I letting that study time go to waste.
And no bookmark import, Sjeltur? That's crazy!
